Nearly every city and town in Georgia has an area, called ვაგზალი vagzali, where marshrutkas, taxis, and sometimes buses leave from. Larger cities and towns generally offer more routes/destinations, while small villages generally only have marshrutkas that drive through them or a route that goes to a larger nearby town. Most people generally rely on marshrutkas to travel around Georgia.

There are generally a large number of marshrutka and/or taxi drivers walking around each vagzali announcing destinations and asking where you are going (in Georgian or Russian). It is best to purchase a ticket for your marshrutka at a ticket office (სალარო salaro), if you can find one, which more legitimate marshrutka companies tend to have. If you cannot find a ticket office, then it is best to find the driver for the marshrutka you are wanting to take (the drivers generally stand in close proximity to their marshrutka). Simply confirm the destination to which you want to go with the driver, and the price, by asking რა ღირს ra ghirs “what is the cost.”

Didube is the primary and largest of Tbilisi’s three vagzali and is located at the lower exit. Didube predominantly serves all regions of Georgia except Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti. For multi-stop destinations, we alphabetized according to what we consider to be the largest and/or main stop.

This was merely our attempt to help organize a very confusing marshurtka area. There are surely lapses in the information we gathered. If you can help us fill those gaps, let us know here!

Station Square vagzali is located in the large plaza in front of the train station and along Abastumani Street, between the train station and the trade center “Pasaji.” This vagzali generally serves larger cities in Georgia.

Samgori vagzali is located along Ketevan Dedopali Avenue at the lower exit, opposite of the bazaar. Samgori serves Kakheti and Kvemo Kartli, with some extraneous locations as well. Samgori vagzali is divided into two sections, separated by an Aversi pharmacy and Nikora grocery store, so if you cannot find your marshrutka in one area, check the other.

Kutaisi

Kutaisi’s main vagzali is located at the Kutaisi II Railway Station, by the McDonald’s. There isn’t a large plaza like at Didube, Station Square, or Gori. Instead, the marshrutkas are scattered to the left of the McDonald’s, with a few companies with ticket offices further to the left.

Kutaisi's Main Marshrutka Destination Map

Kutaisi's regional vagzali is located on the north side of the Rioni River, to the east of the "Chain Bridge" (after which this marshrutka location is named) along Mkheidze St. These marshrutkas will take you to locations such as Rioni, Dzevri, and Magarevi. There is a smaller vagzali to the west of the "Chain Bridge," just south of the "Red Bridge," on the west side of the Rioni River.

Gori’s vagzali is located around its Public Service Hall along Ilia Chavchavadze Ave.

Akhaltsikhe

Akhaltsikhe’s main vagzali is located in the city center along Tamarishvili Street, opposite the Public Service Hall.

Batumi

Batumi’s main vagzali is located at the intersections of Mayakovsky and Shavsheti Streets.

Mtshkheta

Mtskheta doesn’t have a vagzali, however, passing marshrutkas stop along the main road at the entrance to Samtavro Monastery. It has a bus stop shelter and there are generally people standing around it.

Rustavi

Rustavi, like Mtskheta, does not really have a primary vagzali. There are generally marshrutkas at the plaza around the Hero’s Memorial and it is extremely easy to flag marshrukas on the main avenues:  Megobroba and Merab Kostava Avenues.

Stepantsminda

Stepantsminda’s main vagzali is located at Alexander Kazbegi Square.

Telavi

Telavi's main vagzali is located just north of the city center, next to a Credo Bank, on Alazani Ave. This is from where longer distance marshrutkas leave, such as those going to Tbilisi.

Telavi's regional vagzali is located in the city center, across from the Telavi Bazaar. There are many marshrutkas scattered all over, so it might take some scouring to find the right one. These marshrutkas go to places such as Dedoplistsqaro and Lagodekhi.
